typical Amphi ready for restoration
Last owner used gobs of fiberglass over rust holes. This only works for a short while then helps rust grow with a vengeance. Some more stripping and exterior will be bead blasted.
Next time we see this
car it will have its exterior paint removed.
Part of drop off is in place. Floor section is made and partially welded.
Next will be rear bumper and light area.
progress, clean up and epoxy before quarter install. Slow welding allows less filler. Another coat of epoxy. Wheels are sand blasted and ready for epoxy too. Winter Sucks. Some parts of car are done.
The rear axle. Starting with semi typical assembly. Using a quality puler using
a bolt on plate, hub is pulled. Not using plate can distort rare hub. View of
parts. Note spring washers need to be in correct position. After sandblasting,
parts get painted with black epoxy. Last pic is of axle being pulled using
special Amphicar tool.
Blazing red. I am very happy with this. Soon I can start installing all of
the new goodies.
Rebuilt trans needed to be installed, but only after multiple coats of epoxy.
Then the new brake/axle assembly can be installed using new shocks, park brake
cables and lines. Then the new tires can be installed.
Side moldings are polished and installed. Rebuilt transmission installed. Next step is to install the already tested engine. Headlight assemblies waiting for installation of rebuilt wiring harness. This week new windshield will be installed and door will be assembled. Harness will be installed, then the engine. The upgraded Friese clutch will be installed. Last items will be the new door panels and new top. Car is very close to completion. Time to call Hagerty Insurance at 800 922 4050
Today new windshield was installed. Along with parts of wiring harness, top
frame and 100 miscellaneous steps to get car done. Hopefully tomorrow the engine
will be installed.
